After all, as international fashion stylist and Baró founder Mac Intia tells Preview, "Our goal is to have an international platform that still showcases our Filipino roots. [Hence, our name] 'Barò' [which] means clothes."
In this Preview exclusive, we caught up with Mac to talk about the brand he built and later partnered with fellow stylist Cath Sobrevega to grow and expand. He shares the guiding principles behind the label and how its vision of "clean and elevated basics" comes to life in three distinct drops: Volume 1, featuring loungewear; Volume 2, exploring oversized silhouettes; and Volume 3, reimagining classic pieces with a modern twist.

When and why did you choose to start a fashion brand?
"As a fashion stylist, life is hectic and on the run. During the pandemic, it gave me time to focus and start the dream of having my own brand. At that time, there weren't brands offering classic and minimalist pieces of good quality and craftsmanship that can accommodate a spectrum of clients."
How does your background as a stylist influence Barò?
"We are exposed to a variety of clothing brands from low to high fashion. Our personal style leans toward the Barò aesthetic in which we figured that a large demographic also seeks the same."
How would you describe the Baró aesthetic?
"Clean, elevated basics."
How would you describe the Baró man/woman?
"A Barò man/woman is often fashion-forward, discerning, and willing to invest in long-lasting pieces that transcend trends. They prioritize both aesthetics and functionality, looking for sophisticated designs that combine luxury with comfort. Whether for professional, social, or personal wear, they expect the highest level of craftsmanship, premium materials, and an elevated customer experience that aligns with their lifestyle and values."
What's the process behind conceptualizing and constructing each garment?
"Conceptualizing and constructing a premium, high-quality garment begins with a refined design inspired by exclusivity and luxury. We then select the finest fabrics and create custom patterns for a perfect fit.
"A prototype is crafted and meticulously fitted, with attention to intricate details and hand-finishing to ensure flawless construction. Production is often done in our workshop to maintain quality control, and the final garment is showcased with a focus on elegance and exclusivity. Every step prioritizes craftsmanship, precision, and the highest standards of quality."
What are your major considerations in terms of design, fit, form, colors, etc?
"Factors include ensuring the design feels timeless yet innovative. The fit must be impeccable, with custom patterns and tailored adjustments to flatter the body and enhance comfort. The choice of high-quality fabrics is crucial for both longevity and durability, while form and structure should complement the garment's silhouette."
"Color selection is deliberate, with attention to how neutral hues interact with fabric texture, and details like hand-finishing, embroidery, and bespoke trims elevate the overall quality. Additionally, functionality and comfort are essential, ensuring the garment is wearable without sacrificing style."
