The buzz first grew after media brand Highsnobiety uploaded a TikTok clip and Instagram Reel featuring the item in question. As part of Balenciaga’s Fall/Winter 2024 accessory collection at Paris Fashion Week, the bracelet is identical to a run-of-the-mill transparent adhesive tape, made famous by the Scotch brand. However, unlike the actual object, the fashion house’s iteration is plastered with the “Balenciaga” name in its base.
Designed by creative director Demna, the Fall/Winter 2024 showcase dabbles on the interplay of the label’s past and present. The collection is heightened by technology and trends of today, peppered with AI-generated backdrops, large proportions, and upcycled pieces that resulted in hodgepodge ensembles. Among those that walked the runway were creations bandaged by clear tape, wrapped around shirts and tailored jackets.
