The recently concluded TikTok Awards Philippines 2023 has found its new Creator of the Year with Arshie Larga, who bagged the top award for his educational content on medicine and healthcare.
The pharmacist, with a growing 3.7 million followers under his belt, stole the spotlight at Newport Performing Arts Theater with a rousing message to fellow content creators, all while decked out in a deconstructed take on the barong.

Styled and designed by Nash August, the intricately made monochromatic piece fused silhouettes of the traditional barong, the dinner jacket, and the terno butterfly sleeve. Giving it a distinctive gothic charm were cross embellishments sewn throughout its form.
In a message to Preview, the stylist-slash-designer revealed that he hoped to create a “genderfluid” version of the modern barong, in par with the award show’s motif of the year.
“Like our usual work together, I wanted Arshie to be surprised with how the look was going to be,” he said. “I didn’t send the sketch at first, as I always send the sketch a few days before the event.”
Alongside his team Rendel Decoy and Em Abia, the process in creating the whole look took six days to complete. “The creative process isn’t that easy for me,” Nash said. “I’ve been hospitalized before I started doing the whole piece. Luckily, I’ve got my team at my back. The fabric was sewn by my styling associate Decoy, while the details were given by my supplier. Then, it was embellished one-by-one by me and my assistant Em.”
The result, in the end, was a jaw-dropping look!
