This is your sign to go and prepare your very own go bag.
There’s no way to prevent a natural disaster from happening, nor can we predict when it will occur. On May 27, 2025, for instance, a magnitude 4.6 earthquake hit General Nakar, Quezon. It was undeniably felt in other areas too, with the cities of Makati, Manila, Marikina, San Pedro, Laguna, and Tanay, Rizal experiencing the shake in Intensity IV.
For years now, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology or PHIVOLCS has been reminding the public that a 7.2 magnitude earthquake (they’re calling it The Big One) can hit us any day, and the least we can do is prepare for it the best way we can. One way to start is by preparing a go bag, which is basically a backpack or duffel filled with survival essentials you can literally grab and take with you.

Humans can survive for weeks with just water, so this should be first on your list. Make sure to pack at least two liters; while it will be the heaviest item in your bag, it will surely get you through the potentially tough days.

The basics would include a t-shirt, a pair of sweats or any bottoms you’re comfortable with, shoes (plus points if they’re foldable), and undergarments. You can try rolling them in your bag to make space for other things.
