Miles away from the coast of the Philippines, European wine countries have manifested their love for the grape-based alcoholic drink in interesting ways—wine barrel hotel rooms.
In the villages of Portugal, tourism has taken a turn for the immersive side with wine barrel-shaped rooms that guests are able to call home, at least for the duration of their trip.
Popping up in Germany, the Netherlands, and a continent away in Chile, wine barrel hotels might just be the latest love letter to the drink, the craft, and well, to cozy accommodations. But if tickets to these countries aren’t in your plans anytime soon, don’t worry: The Philippines is getting in on the action, too.
Situated in the province of Bukidnon, Wine Barrel Resort and Spa recreates the spark of European wine countries with its centerpiece: the wine barrel room and the outdoor wine bath. Now a favorite among both to-be-wedded and newlyweds, it won’t be lost on anyone why they’ve gravitated to the picturesque location. But before finding yourself in the resort, here’s what you need to know about these wine-filled accommodations.
What to expect at Wine Barrel Resort and Spa in Bukidnon
Accommodations
Villa
Have a smaller party along the trip? Wine Barrel lets guests go cozy in their family villa, which is able to house two to four persons. Overnight visitors can hit the hay with the residence’s queen beds, and feel Bukidnon’s fresh air in their al fresco balcony area.
Family Villa and Suite Room
For those with a bigger group, Wine Barrel offers a family villa that boasts its natural architecture, reminiscent of the Italian countryside. The two-story spot can accommodate ten people, where they can witness the picturesque views of the nearby lake.
Space comes aplenty in the warm villa, as the suite room includes king-sized beds, two double beds, two single beds, and a balcony area perfect to bask in its surroundings.
Wine Barrel Luxury Glamping
Dubbed the first of its kind in the Philippines, the Bukidnon resort is home to the wine barrel room. This version found in Mindanao takes on the European trend, with four guests able to have a sleep-in at the unique location.
The barrel lounge, on the other hand, can accommodate two people on their sofa beds.
As this is glamping, luxury doesn’t run short. The wine barrel room also offers a private toilet and bath, a flat-screen TV, and access to the resort’s varied amenities.
Amenities
Swimming in a body of water is a must-have experience in the resort, as guests will noticeably see the Wine Barrel's many spots where they can take a luxurious dip. Natural is key, as always, with the resort’s spring water swimming pool and waterfalls, but for those seeking the finer side of life, jacuzzis and an outdoor wine bathtub are also in store.
And what’s camping without a nice fireside chat? The resort also has a fireplace, bonfire, and a sunken lounge for those intimate night conversations, paired well with a drink at the wine bar and entertainment area. When the morning hits, guests can also take a stroll (or paddle!) at its rabbit farm and duck pond.
Hunger isn’t an option here either, with the resort’s private chef that can cook up curated dishes that’ll be delivered straight to tables. For those opting for a grander spread, the resort also offers a grand lunch and dinner buffet with its menu highlight: lechon baka!
