One of South Korea's most adored soprano singers, Lee Sang Eun, has passed away. She was found dead in the bathroom of Gimcheon Culture and Art Center in South Korea minutes before her supposed performance at the 33rd Regular Concert of Gimcheon Municipal Choir. 

According to reports by the South Korean entertainment press, it was the event staff that found her. “It was time for Lee Sang Eun to come on stage, but she wasn’t backstage. When I looked in the bathroom, I found her lying on the floor," said the event staff.

The rescue team brought Sang Eun to a nearby hospital, but unfortunately, she didn’t make it. Police are currently investigating the cause of Sang Eun’s death.

1. She has a stage name.

Her stage name was Lee Tzsche.

2. She was known for her androgynous look.

During the earlier years of her career, Lee Sang Eun had a very androgynous style that made her popular with both men and women.

3. She has released 15 full-length albums.

She first debuted in 1988 at the MBC Riverside Music Festival, a representative youth music competition, and has since released 15 full-length albums. Her most recent album is titled fLoW which was released in 2019.

4. Her whole education and career path revolved around singing.

She graduated high school from the Seoul Arts High School and studied at the College of Music at Seoul National University then went on to finish her Master’s degree at the Mannes School Of Music in New York

5. She was an award-winning singer-songwriter. 

In 1988, she won the Rookie Artist Award at the Golden Disc Awards. She also won Female Musician of the Year in 2004 at the Korean Music Awards and again in 2006 at Romantopia.

6. She was popular in Japan.

Despite being South Korean, Lee Tzsche became popular in Japan and even worked with Japanese musicians, including Takeda Hajimu. Some would even argue that she was more popular in Japan than in her home country.

7. She composed songs in English.

Aside from working with Japanese musicians, she also worked with American session musicians. This led to her composing songs and even whole albums in English, such as her 1999 album Asian Prescription.

Rest in peace, Sang Eun. She will be remembered.
