First announced in 2019, filming wrapped up in 2020 before Park Bo Gum’s enlistment. Since then, fans have wondered when the movie was coming out—but we’re glad to say that we have more updates today. Here’s what you need to know about the upcoming movie.
The Plot
The movie's plot deals with human relationships, life, loss, and technology, and it sounds like something straight out of Black Mirror. Wonderland centers on a service called Wonderland and the stories of its users. It is a simulated reality program that allows people to reconnect with loved ones they may never see again by reconstructing them using artificial intelligence and big data.
The movie largely centers on the story of Bae Suzy and Park Bo Gum, who play a young couple that can no longer communicate in real life after Park Bo Gum’s character slipped into a coma. We can already tell this movie will need a lot of tissues for those tears!
The Cast
Aside from its big-name leads, Wonderland has a star-studded cast. Gong Yoo makes a special appearance in the movie as a man pining after his late wife, played by popular Chinese actress Tang Wei.
Popular Korean actors such as Jung Yu Mi (Train to Busan) and Choi Woo Shik (Parasite) are also featured in the movie as people who control the events within Wonderland’s simulated environment. Others also featured in the film include Son Kyung Won, Jeon Su Ji, and Choi Moo-sung.
This is the second time Park Bo Gum and Gong Yoo are starring in a sci-fi film together after appearing in the 2020 movie Seo Bok.

The Crew
The movie is written and directed by Kim Tae Yong, director of the 2011 movie Late Autumn which starred Hyun Bin and Tang Wei. He also helmed the popular 1999 horror movie Memento Mori.
Fun fact: he’s also married to Tang Wei! They met on the set of Late Autumn, and began dating in October 2013 after the actress shot a commercial in South Korea.
When to Watch “Wonderland”
On March 23, the film’s distributor Acemaker Movieworks confirmed that it was currently preparing to release Wonderland in theaters in June and marketing preparations have already begun.
After filming wrapped up in 2020, it was initially announced that the movie would come out on Netflix and was slated to be released in 2021—but talks seemed to have stalled after no release date was confirmed for the movie.
