Although it may be difficult to believe, the biggest celebrities of today’s generation also looked up to other stars before they joined the entertainment industry themselves. This rings true for style stars as well—even your favorite trendsetters glean inspiration from fellow fashion aficionados!
For instance, Gen Z actress Awra Briguela recently revealed to Candy that she gained style cues from international musician Rihanna during her early days in show biz. “First style icon? Rihanna! Siya talaga ‘pag Hollywood or international,” she shared.
Awra then added that she also has a local style icon, who happens to be none other than Vice Ganda herself! “‘Pag sa Philippines, well, pang-international din ‘yung nanay ko [si] Vice Ganda,” she explained, revealing that the TV host previously treated her to a grand shopping spree.
Apparently, they ended up splurging over P250,000 on Awra’s new clothes! “I remember noon, I was 12 nung pinag-shopping niya ako ng worth P250,000 sa mall. Tapos binilhan niya ako ng mga damit,” Awra recalled fondly with a smile.
Now an up-and-coming style star herself, Awra has started investing in her own luxury pieces as well. She revealed in the same interview that her first-ever big fashion purchase was a pair of leather combat boots from a cult-fave footwear brand.
“Hindi pa uso ‘yung mga Jordans before. ‘Yung Dr. Martens, ‘yung mga leather shoes,” she answered when asked about her first splurge as a celebrity. “Hindi ako nilalagpas ng P2,000 sa shoes, tapos bumili ako ng ‘tig 10,000 na shoes sa Hong Kong.”
