Japan has long been one of the top travel destinations for Filipinos, and for good reason. From the bustling streets of Tokyo and the cherry blossom-filled parks of Kyoto to the powdery slopes of Hokkaido and the rich cultural experiences in Osaka, the Land of the Rising Sun continues to capture the hearts of many. But for those planning their next Japanese adventure, a significant change in the visa application process is coming soon.

READ: New Japan Visa Centers to Streamline Applications
The Embassy of Japan in the Philippines has announced the opening of Japan Visa Application Centers (JVACs) in multiple locations across the country. Starting April 7, 2025, all visa applications will be processed through these new centers, which will be situated in Parañaque City, Makati City, Quezon City, Cebu City, and Davao City.
This move aims to streamline and centralize the application process, making it more efficient and accessible for Filipino travelers.
The new visa centers will operate from Mondays to Fridays, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., with application hours varying by location: 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Parañaque, Makati, and Quezon City, and 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. in Cebu and Davao. Applicants can claim their passports during the JVAC's operating hours.
It's important to note that starting April 6, 2025, visa applications will no longer be accepted through accredited travel agencies. Instead, applicants must submit their documents directly to the newly established JVACs. This transition is intended to reduce processing times and manage the increasing number of visa applications more effectively.
No Visa Fee for Tourist Travelers
The Embassy of Japan in the Philippines clarified that tourists applying for either a single or multiple-entry visa will not be required to pay a visa fee. However, applicants will need to pay a center usage fee of P520 upon submission, along with any additional service fees they may opt for. The visa fee structure differs for non-tourist visas, including long-term stays, where additional charges may apply depending on nationality and application type.
The embassy further explained that while it does not impose a visa fee for tourist visas, the JVAC, managed by VFS Global, incurs operational costs that require service fees. Applicants can also avail of premium services, such as the P1,500 premium lounge, which provides an end-to-end personalized visa submission experience.
Appointment Scheduling and Fees
Appointments for visa applications and renewals have officially opened and can be scheduled through the VFS website. Applicants should select their preferred visa center, book an appointment, bring all necessary visa application requirements, and pay the P520 center usage fee on the day of their appointment.
The website also offers additional services, such as:
-
Application tracking: Monitor the status of your visa application.
-
Premium services: Access to an applicant's lounge for a more comfortable waiting experience.
-
Courier services: Convenient passport delivery options.
-
Form-filling assistance: Staff support for completing the visa application form.
