The White Lotus is back, and this time, it’s bringing its signature mix of luxury and drama to Thailand. The third season of HBO’s hit series transports viewers to a fictionalized version of an ultra-exclusive Thai resort, but in reality, it’s a carefully curated blend of four real-world properties. From the palm-fringed beaches of Koh Samui to the stunning coastline of Phuket, these resorts set the stage for the show’s latest high-society unraveling. And yes, you can stay in them—if you’re willing to splurge.
Why "The White Lotus" Season 3 Was Filmed in Thailand
Unlike the previous seasons, which were filmed at the Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea in Hawaii and San Domenico Palace in Taormina, Sicily, the Thailand edition is actually a composite of four different hotels. In an interview with People, executive producer David Bernad shared how the team scouted locations across Bangkok, Phuket, Krabi, and Chiang Mai before settling on the final selection.
Initially, Koh Samui wasn’t even in the running due to creator Mike White’s past experiences on The Amazing Race. According to David, “Mike was twice on The Amazing Race... and twice, when he was eliminated, he went to Koh Samui and had to stay in the elimination station.” Despite this, the team eventually toured the Four Seasons Koh Samui and found it impossible to resist. “The hotel was just so perfect,” said David. “It called our name.”

However, the Four Seasons didn’t have everything the production needed, so additional locations were brought in. The Anantara Phuket provided the show’s spa setting, while dinner scenes were shot at the Rosewood in Phuket. Even the reception area seen in the series is a different location—the Anantara Mai Khao in northern Phuket, chosen for its grander scale. The season’s opening sequence was also filmed there, as it featured water access not available at the Four Seasons.

Thailand ultimately won the production over not just with its stunning scenery and luxury hotels but also with its film-friendly climate and tax incentives. “We really love the people and the culture,” David shared with People. “It’s hard to put in words, just the warmth you feel as you travel through Thailand.”
