This month, Preview has collaborated with BYS and the designers from BYS Fashion Week 2024 in a bold and unconventional cover that stars Liza Soberano. This marks her return to Preview 10 years after her debut cover, showcasing a significant evolution in her confidence and style.

"It takes courage to break free from society's expectations of you and to not have to conform to a certain mold. Liza Soberano, for that reason, we gravitate towards that energy," Preview Editor-in-Chief Marj Ramos-Clemente shares in a special episode of The Making Of. "It's brave for someone to risk everything that she has here in her home base to pursue a dream outside of her comfort zone," she adds, revealing what made Liza the perfect muse for the cover shoot.
"We chose to do the shoot in a warehouse or a junkyard to really offset or contrast the looks," Creative Director Bacs Arcebal shares. "You can say that it's the complete opposite of very demure and very mindful."
Wearing pieces from BYS Fashion Week 2024's lineup of designers, including Iñigo, Kristine Ordinario, Martin Bautista, Proudrace, Charlotte Folk, and Russell Villafuerte, plus accessories from Fendi and Suki, Liza sported daring looks that contrasted beautifully with the grittier junkyard setting mounted by Rocket Sets.
The beauty direction was also equally adventurous. Makeup artist Anthea Buena gave her a bold makeover, while hairstylist Paul Nebres was asked to create unconventional cuts and colors. With cherry wine nails from Mimi Qiu to match her ensembles, Liza embraced every look with a cool, nonchalant attitude.
“I’ve always wanted to try having a pixie cut, [but] I think I'm just too chicken to actually do it," she laughs, noting the creative freedom that the shoot offered in pushing her style boundaries.
"We wanted it to be intentionally out-of-the-box and not your typical leading lady," Bacs explains. The result? A fashion narrative that pairs the rawness of the environment with Liza’s edgy yet polished presence.
Photographer Annika Sy took on the challenge of capturing the concept in stills. Revealing that she immediately resonated with the creative direction, she interpreted the deck as "being able to expose this side of womanhood that's more gritty and textural."
The scale of the production, as well as the sweltering heat, made the cover shoot no easy feat, but bringing to life something that you don't often see made it worthwhile.
