“That’s all?” Well, apparently not! It’s been 18 years since Meryl Streep’s Miranda Priestly walked the offices of Runway in The Devil Wears Prada, but it seems like she’s finally due to return. According to recent reports, a long-awaited sequel to the cult classic fashion film is now in the works.

“The Devil Wears Prada” Sequel: Everything We Know So Far

In a report by Puck, screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna has been tapped to pen the follow-up to the 2006 film. The sequel is currently in early development at Disney, according to Deadline’s sources.

The American screenwriter was the mind behind the first The Devil Wears Prada script, which was later nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay at the British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA) in 2006. Adapted from the 2003 novel of the same name by Lauren Wesiberger, the film centers on fresh journalism grad Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway), who lands a job as the assistant to Miranda Priestly, the stern editor-in-chief of a high-fashion magazine. The original novel is widely believed to have taken inspiration from the author’s time as a personal assistant to editor-in-chief Anna Wintour

What Is the Plot of “The Devil Wears Prada” Sequel?

The 2006 film ends with Andy bagging a new job at a New York newspaper, but it seems that the sequel will delve more into Miranda’s side years after that conclusion. In the same report by Puck, the movie follow-up will reportedly shed light on the twilight years of the editor-in-chief’s career, in the midst of traditional magazine publishing’s decline. Opposite her is her former assistant Emily Charlton (Emily Blunt), now a high-powered executive at a “Kering or LVMH-style luxury group,” who now holds the advertising money Miranda needs.

Will the Original “The Devil Wears Prada” Cast Return for the Sequel?

Anne previously said that doing the Devil Wears Prada was “tempting,” but the actress had expressed her doubts about a new movie due to the drastic difference in eras.

“Now, everything has gone so digital and that movie centered around the concept of producing a physical thing. It’s just very different now,” she said.

“It is tempting to think about Andy and Emily needing to get Miranda her coffee and she’s somewhere in Europe and then along the way they pick up Stanley Tucci in Italy, who’s at a restaurant. It’s tempting, but I don’t think it’s going to happen. They could relaunch it, find some new people, and do it.”

When Will “The Devil Wears Prada” Sequel Premiere?

With the sequel in its development, there’s no official word yet of the film’s release as of writing. Count ourselves excited, though!
