The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee is a Tony Award-winning interactive musical that takes audiences on a journey into the world of competitive spelling. Set at the titular spelling bee, the story follows a diverse group of sixth-graders, each with their own motivations and quirks, as they vie for the championship. Like Sandbox’s recent productions, Every Brilliant Thing and Bawat Bonggang Bagay, this musical involves the audience by featuring guest spellers from the crowd, making each show unique and engaging.
From the shy Olive to the eccentric Barfee, the characters reveal their hopes, struggles, and passions through hilarious and touching songs. With a score by William Finn and a witty book by Rachel Sheinkin, this musical has garnered acclaim for its charm, wit, and interactive elements.

The Sandbox Collective is embarking on its 2024 season in collaboration with ABS-CBN’s Star Magic.
Under the direction of the Zsazsa Zaturnnah The Musical…Yun Lang!, Next to Normal, and Spring Awakening’s Missy Maramara, the production is set to deliver a fresh perspective. Assisting Missy is Dingdong Rosales, a seasoned theater professional boasting over two decades of multifaceted experience. Meanwhile, steering the musical direction is Rony Fortich, a decorated composer and musical director whose repertoire has earned him prestigious accolades and global acclaim.
