Fourteen-time Grammy Award winner Taylor Swift concluded the third night of her six-night Eras Tour stop in Singapore on Tuesday, March 5. In attendance, yet again, was none other than Taylor Sheesh– the viral Filipina drag performer most known for drawing in large crowds, all while performing the pop star's greatest hits. Prior to the show, Taylor Sheesh shared her seat number on X (formerly Twitter), which was considerably close to the main stage!
After flying out to the Japan and Australia leg of the tour—and now, Singapore—some netizens felt that Taylor Sheesh deserved to receive the much-awaited 22 hat, and finally come face-to-face with the American pop superstar herself.
However, the 29-year-old drag queen wasn’t selected during her show. Instead, another young girl was chosen to receive the highly sought-after souvenir.
What is a "22 Hat"?
To the non-Swifties out there, Taylor Swift has an Eras Tour tradition where she hands out a black fedora hat to one lucky fan– typically young girls–during her performance of the hit single "22." In previous stops, recipients included Kobe Bryant’s daughter and Selena Gomez’s 10-year-old sister, as well as a young cancer patient during the Australian leg.
What happened on the third night of The Eras Tour in Singapore?
Netizens had mixed reactions when the superstar called up another young girl during the highly anticipated segment.
Some felt that Taylor’s team was deliberately snubbing the drag star. One post on X even said, “Feeling ko talaga ayaw ng team ni Taylor Swift kay Taylor Sheesh. She was never acknowledged eh.”
Contrastingly, other netizens felt that the choice of recipient was a non-issue to begin with.
In the end, Taylor Sheesh herself addressed the concerns on X. “Let’s be happy [for] the recipient of 22 hat tonight!”
