As cliché as it is to say, Sunshine Cruz is like fine wine. Whether she's in a colorful casual OOTD, or a figure-flaunting swimmie, the 44-year-old proves that her beauty only gets better with age.
Though, this is unfortunately not public opinion. As aging remains to be a touchy topic here in the Philippines, Sunshine is no stranger to disrespectful comments about how old she is. For example, she's been told that she "dresses like a teenager" in a dergatory way.
In a Facebook post, she put her foot down and let everyone know what she thinks of these remarks, once and for all.
"Paalala lang po to educate others sa maling pagiisip about ageing," she begins her post. Alongside it are screenshots of comments from netizens bashing the celebrity mom, calling her "lola" and "tigulang."
Sunshine states that she's actually proud to be "44, healthy, and happy." Her stance on the issue is that getting older is actually a privilege many fail to acknowledge and appreciate. "Being a lola or having the privilege to age is a blessing denied to many. Huwag natin gawing ugali at gamitin ang salitang 'matanda' to hurt, insult or decribe a person negatively," she puts it.
In her 40s, Sunshine is actually still one of local show biz's most active stars. She just starred in GMA's Stories from the Heart: Love on Air, and was part of an ensemble cast in Mano Po Legacy: The Family Fortune. She balances this TV career with appearing in endorsements and being a single mom to her daughters, Angelina, Sam, and Chesca.
"Ang mahalaga ay meron tayong pinagkatandaan, at higit sa lahat wala po tayong tinatapakan at sinasaktan just because nadadagdagan ang ating edad," the actress says, punctuating her post.
We wholeheartedly agree, Sunshine! Keep doing you!
