After six long years, the K-drama world returns to the Strong Girl cinematic universe. In 2023’s Strong Girl Nam-soon, the story continues with Bong-soon’s cousin Nam-soon and an all-new powerful maternal line–quite literally!
Following the original tale of superhuman strength being passed down through generations of women, the Bong-soon spinoff doesn’t run short of brawny gals. Below, see all the actresses and the super strong characters they play in the show.
Lee Yoo Mi as Kang Nam Soon
Taking the role of the titular character is the 29-year-old actress Lee Yoo Mi as Kang Nam-soon, who starred in several hits like Squid Game and All of Us Are Dead. A cousin of Do Bong-soon, Nam Soon is depicted as a kindhearted young woman, who, as a child, was lost in Mongolia while on a photography trip with her father. Growing into adulthood, she returns to South Korea to find her long-lost parents, where she finds her mother who happens to possess superhuman strength.
Kim Jung Eun as Hwang Geum Joo
The family’s matriarch Hwang Geum Joo is portrayed by the veteran Korean actress Kim Jung Eun, best known for the early-aughts classic Lovers in Paris. In Strong Girl Nam-soon, Geum Joo is the CEO of the pawnshop Gold Blue, whose search for her daughter leads her to start a tournament for strong women to lure her in out of vanishment. As for her skills, Geum Joo possesses superhuman strength showcased during an armed robbery at her pawnshop.
Kim Hae Sook as Gil Joong Gan
Portraying the superpowered brood’s revered grandmother Gil Joong Gan is Kim Hae Sook, a familiar actress who starred in Start-Up and Under the Queen’s Umbrella. The lead of their strength-laced maternal line, Gil Joong Gan takes on the mantle of mentor to Nam-soon upon her return.
Park Bo Young as Do Bong Soon
A spinoff isn’t complete without a generous helping of cameos, and this K-drama is no exception. The titular character of 2017’s Strong Girl Bong-soon makes her appearance in the series, played by the original actress Park Bo Young. Her love interest Ahn Min Hyuk is also set to make a cameo alongside her, with Park Hyung Sik returning to the role.
