Unknown senders of job and loan offers via text message should blocked and deleted, regulators said Tuesday, as mobile subscribers receive an unusually high number of spam SMS.
Scammers have resorted on offering fake jobs and loans via text to take advantage of hard up Filipinos, National Telecommunications Commission Deputy Commissioner Edgardo Cabarios told TeleRadyo. "Hangga't maaari pag naka-receive tayo n'yan, block the number tapos delete the message. Kung puwede i-report sa CICC," said Cabarios, refering to the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center.
Unsolicited messages from unknown numbers are red flags and people should never click links sent through these, the NTC said. "Kung nakuha ang personal info mo, puwedeng identity theft, puwede magpanggap na ikaw 'yun, lalo na 'pag nakuha details ng mga account mo, delikado 'yun."
The NTC said it's difficult to identify the scammers because they use prepaid sim cards that are bought anonymously and use text blast machines. Globe and Smart have been asked to warn subscribers against the spam texts, Cabaros said. "Ang pinaka-effective po talaga dyan mawala kita nila e. 'Pag wala na kita 'yang mga 'yan, kusang hihinto 'yan."
