"Our accent is not a joke and should never be laughed at."

South Korean YouTuber Tzuyang, renowned for her mukbang videos, is currently facing criticism for uploading a video where she made racially insensitive jokes and mocked Filipinos.

In the vlog, Tzuyang was seen dining in a restaurant with a guest, a supposed "Pinoy subscriber" named Ni Tong. Ni Tong introduced herself, speaking in broken Korean and with a thick Filipino accent, saying, "Hello. I am Ni Tong, and I have a beautiful smile. I was formerly the wife of a farmer, but now I am a comedian."

Viewers and fans of Tzuyang’s videos, many of whom are Filipinos, were disappointed to find out that Ni Tong was not, in fact, Pinoy. Tzuyang’s guest’s real name was Kim Ji Young, a South Korean comedian who was merely pretending to be a Filipino and mocking our accent.

Netizens React to South Korean YouTuber Tzuyang and Comedian Kim Ji Young Mocking Filipinos in Mukbang Video

"As a Filipino, I [felt] so proud at first when I saw that she is a Filipino. But the moment that it is revealed that she is not and she is copying or mocking Filipino's accent, it made me bothered. Our accent is not a joke and should never be laughed at. Hope you all understand my point, thank you," one netizen commented.

"New [YouTube] video of Tzuyang is so disappointing. Giving a platform to a comedian who mocks [Filipinos] is not it. First Pinoy baiting [by] putting a [Philippine flag] on a video, saying she’s a Filipino subscriber, but she’s not, she’s a full native Korean," commented another.

The video that was uploaded on January 28 was originally titled '[Philippine Flag Emoji] The Philippine Subscriber (?) was surprised [laughing emoji] Beef tripe rice noodles,' and she then changed the video’s title a week after in February to 'Vietnamese restaurant where you eat in line [smiling emoji] Beef Gopchang Rice Noodles Mukbang,' before ultimately deciding to make the video private.

Tzuyang has already written an apology in three different languages, including Filipino, English, and Korean.

"I want to extend my sincere apologies to our Filipino viewers and subscribers for any concerns caused by the video uploaded on January 28th with a Korean comedian," she began.

"I hold great respect for the Philippines and feel genuinely grateful to the many viewers in the Philippines who enjoy my videos. However, it was a huge oversight on my part not to realize that the content we produced might unintentionally cause emotional pain, which was not our intention," she continued.

She ended her apology by saying that she would heed the criticisms and comments that she got from her viewers and would be more "thoughtful and attentive" when making future content.
