K-drama worlds have collided! Queen of Tears may already boast a star-studded cast with leads Kim Soo Hyun and Kim Ji Won, but episode eight recently upped the ante–with a cameo from Hallyu icon Song Joong Ki, no less!

Amid flashbacks and forgotten memories, the K-drama’s eighth episode sees tensions rise at the present time when Hong Hae-in (Kim Ji Won) decides to file for divorce from her husband, Baek Hyun-woo (Kim Soo Hyun).
Before they sign the divorce papers, the scene sets up the introduction of Hae-in’s lawyer. Hyun-woo and his lawyer friend Kim Yang-gi (Moon Tae Yu) begin to speculate who her mystery attorney could be, until he enters the halls in dramatic fashion. It’s none other than Song Joong Ki, who reprises his role as Vincenzo!
All the Song Joong Ki K-Drama and Movie References in “Queen of Tears”
For his Queen of Tears cameo, the Korean actor returned to his titular role from the 2021 K-drama Vincenzo, where he portrayed a lawyer raised in the mafias of Italy. But that isn’t the only character referenced in Joong Ki’s short appearance–the show also made several nods to more of his roles in his vast filmography.
During his introduction as Hae-in’s lawyer, Yang-gi gives a brief background about Vicenzo to Hyun-woo, which mostly revolves around hearsay. “He’s a terrifying man,” his lawyer friend prefaces.
However, the list of rumors was actually based on Joong Ki’s previous dramas and movies! At first, Yang-gi calls Vincenzo the “youngest heir of a conglomerate family,” which is a reference to his role in Reborn Rich. In the 2022 drama, Joong Ki plays Yoon Hyeon-woo, a former employee who wakes up in the body of a chaebol family’s youngest heir.
Next, Yang-gi points out that he may be a “former soldier stationed abroad,” a direct nod to Joong Ki’s stint in 2016’s Descendants of the Sun as Captain Yoo Shi-jin. He even co-starred in the series with Kim Ji Won, who played Yoon Myeong-joo!
And probably one of the most outlandish rumors, Yang-gi speculates that Vincenzo was “someone who came here on a spaceship.” This is a callback to the Netflix-produced sci-fi blockbuster Space Sweepers, where Joong Ki played the outer space pilot Tae-ho.
Yang-gi ends his list of rumors, saying that Joong Ki’s character might be a “werewolf.” In 2012, the actor portrayed this fantasy side in the movie A Werewolf Boy.
Hyun-woo’s friend caps it off by stating that the lawyer’s name is Vincenzo, a person who hails from the actual mafia. The two start to imagine nightmare scenarios, but the actual proceedings seem to end in adequate terms–at least, on the outside!
