More than just the start of the spooky season, October is also the beginning of Breast Cancer Awareness month. Being the most common cancer in women in the Philippines, it’s now more important than ever to raise awareness of the dangers this disease poses so it can be caught in its early stages.
That being said, most show support for this cause typically by donning a pink ribbon to represent their courage in fighting a terminal illness while also remembering those who lost to it. Artist and breast cancer survivor Christina Dy designed the Catherine Scarf which was named after her sister who helped Christina through her battle. This silk piece was also inspired by the Japanese art of Kintsugi, as seen by the scarf’s designs of pink interlaced with gold to represent the “cracks.”
