Sarah Geronimo's career encompasses 20 years worth of hit songs, sold-out concerts, and millions of adoring fans across the globe. At this point in her life, the "Popstar Royalty" is all about constant reinvention. In her July 2024 PEP Headliner interview, Sarah got candid about what keeps her on her toes when it comes to making music.

Sarah Geronimo on the Fear of Losing Her Fans
"Noon kasi, dahil sobra po akong na-busy sa trabaho, parang di ko po namalayan na, ‘Wow, yun na pala, two decades na pala,'" she told PEP.ph. Even with her years of experience, the singer still feels some uncertainties about the work she puts out.
She expresses: "Sa estado po ng buhay ko, saka sa career ko, may pangamba na parang, 'Shocks, may manonood ba? Mayroon bang mag-i-stream ng music ko?'"
Sarah emphasizes that show business is, indeed, still a business, so there remains a need to consider if her output will actually impact audiences. "Naglalabas pa rin po ng pera to produce materials," she states, "so, siyempre, we're expected also to make returns din. And producer na rin po kami. So, alam ko."

With this in mind, the OPM icon constantly reassures herself of why she began her career in the first place. "Yung pagmamahal ko po kasi sa music, yun yung entertaining people. Parang maliit pa lang ako, yun yung gusto ko po," she shares.
And Sarah knows that in this field of work, there really is no stopping once you get started. Even during the times she thinks of giving up, she reminds herself of what it's taken for her to get to where she is now. She narrates a time during her Star For A Night days when her father instilled in her the drive to keep going.
"Bago po ako sumali ng Star For A Night, ilang beses po akong nag-audition, tapos wala… hindi po ako natatanggap. Kasi maliit pa lang po ako nung magsimula. Tapos walang nangyayari. Umabot [na ako] ng 13 years old, wala pa rin."

Sarah continues, sharing, "Tapos nabaon sa utang yung parents ko just to support me. Sabi ko, 'Dad, ayoko na po talaga.' Sabi niya, 'Anak, pag di ka sumubok ngayon, wala kang aasahan.'"
She learned the value of not giving up, not just for the sake of her family or supporters, but also for herself. "Walang ibang mag-pu-push o tutulong sa 'yo kundi ang sarili mo," she says. "It’s a decision that you have to make. You have to help yourself.”
