Sandara Park and her reported wealth has always been the talk of the town, given the long-standing rumors of her status as the third richest K-pop idol. A recent interview with the star may have cemented that even further, after she confirmed a rather extravagant gift to an acquaintance—and “accidentally,” at that!

During her appearance at the South Korean variety series Cultwo Show, Sandara discussed the gifting incident when the topic of wedding congratulatory gifts came about.
In South Korea, gifting cash inside an envelope during occasions like weddings and funerals is a customary norm. The “congratulatory” or “condolence” money is meant for guests to indirectly chip in for help in the event’s organization, and the variety show delved into the amount that is usually given.
One of the show’s listeners had raised the inquiry, when they revealed that they had been given 30,000 Korean won or approximately P1,270 as a wedding gift.
Sandara chimed in with her own experiences, saying that she, too, struggled with the custom. According to the Korean star, there have been several moments when she ended up giving more money than the standard amount. During one instance, Sandara had given one million Korean won—or approximately P42,300—to someone she wasn’t even close with.
“I didn’t know [the standards] in Korea. I was ignorant about it while going to weddings or funerals, so I used to do that,” she said, in a translation by Koreaboo. “But now I don’t. I have reduced it quite a lot.”
The newlyweds Sandara had gifted the money to had reached out to her, as they felt burdened by the large amount. To keep them at ease, they had treated her to an expensive meal.
“I later ran into that person, and he treated me with beef and left,” she narrated. “When I asked my acquaintances, ‘Why did he do that?’, they said he would feel burdened if he didn’t.”
These days, the 2NE1 and the Philippines' pambansang krung-krung has learned the ropes of gifting, as she has cut the amount by half for acquaintances, while her closer staff members are given a bigger amount. We love a generous queen!
