At the opening of Paldo, his Korean fine-dining restaurant located in Quezon City, the comedian discussed his “secret” to launching several businesses.
“Nag-iipon ako s’yempre para sa future. Nag-ipon ako ng 10 taon. Siyempre, hindi lang puro ako, naghanap ako ng tao. Importante kasi tao [sa] paligid mo,” he told PhilStar.
Among those trusted colleagues included a Korean chef of 25 years and Ryan’s several business partners. The host stressed the importance of having a dependable team by his side.
“Sa loob ng 10 years, importante ’yung tao na mapagkakatiwalaan mo tapos may kanya-kanyang talent,” he said. And while Korean influences run at the root of most of his businesses, the 32-year-old personality stressed that all his employees were Filipino.

Following his kimchi business, Korean restaurant Ducup, and hair salon Moridu Art, Paldo marks Ryan’s fourth local venture. Dubbed as the first casual Korean fine-dining restaurant in the Philippines, Paldo takes the diverse palette of the eight provinces across South Korea’s peninsula. The idea of opening the restaurant was born from his interest in bringing a traditional Korean gastronomic experience to the Philippines, far beyond the known samgyupsal.

“Usually, nalulungkot ako kasi karamihan lalo na mga kababayan nating Pilipino, kapag sinabi nilang Korean food, ang alam nila unlimited samgyupsal. 'Yun 'yung karamihang alam nila na Korean food. Dito sa Paldo, talagang you can experience Korea. Kahit hindi kayo pumunta sa Korea, pwede talaga kayong ditong mag-try ng Korean traditional food,” the host said.

And while “fine dining” may be used to describe the restaurant, Paldo aims to offer more affordable options. The Korean restaurant offers a Chef’s Meal worth P850 per person, which consists of briquettes bulgogi, soybean paste or cheonggukjang, oolong ssamjan and modum ssamjang (vegetables), and 13 kinds of side dishes. Meanwhile, the premium lunch menu starts at P390 (Cheonggukjang) up to P550 (cold noodles with beef ssam).

Paldo is located at 33 Scout Santiago, Diliman, Quezon City.
