Any guesses what "Liwanag Sa Dilim" will be about?

Recent events may have you belting lines like "The world could die, and everything may lie. Still, you shan't cry" and other songs about heartbreak. But before you spend all your energy singing your heart out now, you might want to wait until March to release it all to the void.

9 Works Theatrical—the same folks who brought us RENT, Once on This Island, and the APO Hiking Society musical Eto Na! Musikal nAPO!—is bringing us Liwanag sa Dilim, a musical featuring songs by Rico Blanco this March 2025.

What You Need to Know About the Upcoming Rico Blanco Musical

Blanco, of course, needs no introduction. The Rivermaya chief songwriter and eventual frontman is behind many of the band's famous pop-rock anthems. This means we can expect many classic, crowd-favorite Rivermaya tunes to be scattered throughout the musical in all its heartbreakingly cathartic glory.

Liwanag sa Dilim was first announced during the curtain call of Once on This Island. Robbie Guevara, who was also the director for Once on This Island, will again take the helm and write the book for this production.

During the announcement, GMA Network Singer Anthony Rosaldo sang his heart out as he belted out the Blanco-classic Liwanag Sa Dilim. Whether this means we'll see Rosaldo in the play has not yet been confirmed. As of October, 9 Works Theatrical has held castings for Liwanag sa Dilim, although no official cast announcement has been released as of writing.

But this isn't the first time we've heard of Liwanag sa Dilim. You may remember that in 2019, 9 Works Theatrical previously teased an unnamed musical with a visual featuring Rico Blanco under the rain. This musical was originally slated for 2020 but has since been put on the back burner following the pandemic. Finally, after five years, it's becoming a reality.

As of this writing, not many details have been released, but we trust 9 Works Theatrical when they say this is happening.
