8 "Reply 1988" Filming Locations to Add to Your Travel Bucket List

This might surprise you, but Reply 1988 wasn't actually filmed in Ssangmun-dong, Seoul. The iconic street where our favorite K-drama families lived was actually a set built in Uijeongbu City in Gyeonggi Province. According to Soompi, the set was supposed to be preserved as a tourist attraction, but because it was built near the Uijeongbu Stadium, "there was a limit to letting it remain as a tourist attraction or as a set for other dramas." So...it was actually demolished! Don't worry, according to the site Korean Dramaland, there are many Reply 1988 locations you can still visit:

1. Uijeongbu Arts Center

Remember when Jung Hwan realized he lost his chance? He was only late for a few seconds, but Taek was already there for Deok Sun! The heartbreaking scene was filmed outside the Uijeongbu Arts Center.

2. Yalgaki Tteokbokki

Deok Sun, Maggie, and Joey's favorite place is a store called Brazilian Tteokbokki. It's also where her friends told poor Deok Sun that Sun Woo liked her even though he was actually crushing on her older sister. Guess what? The actual store's walls are even filled with Reply 1988 memorabilia.

3. England Tonkatsu

Remember when Jung Hwan's whole family went out to dinner for his mom's birthday? The exact restaurant, according to fans, is England Tonkatsu or England King Pork Cutlet, which was established in the 1980s.

4. Dongducheon Munhwa Cinema

Remember when the boys went to the "Samyang Theater" to watch an adult movie and they got caught? The movie theater has "two cinema halls with 291 seats that possibly dates back to the '70s or '80s."

5. Incheon Health High School

Our Reply 1988 boys attended Ssangmun High School, and the place where they filmed was reportedly Incheon Health High School.

6. Shinmyung Girls' High School

The filming location of Ssangmun Girls' High School, where Deok Sun and her friends went, is also located in Incheon.

7. Hyehwa Kalguksu

It's the restaurant Deok Sun's parents went to! Fun trivia: the restaurant was established in the 1980s.

8. Donggwang Theater

It's one of the oldest movie theaters in South Korea! In Reply 1988, it's where Dong Ryong and Jung Hwan go to see a movie in Episode 18, but Jung Hwan leaves all of a sudden to go after Deok Sun.
