Such is the case for Park Sung Hoon, whose villainous portrayal of Yoon Eun-sung in Netflix's hit K-drama Queen of Tears has earned the ire of netizens, with many even flocking to his official Instagram account to express their anger over the developments in the recent episodes.

In Episode 14 of Queen of Tears, Eun-sung (Park Sung Hoon) flew to Frankfurt, Germany to follow Hong Hae-in (Kim Ji Won) who underwent surgery, taking advantage of her memory loss and framing Baek Hyun-woo (Kim Soo Hyun) for murder. The actor's remarkable performance in the drama has left viewers enraged, to the point that his Instagram was flooded with "hate" comments, including those from users who were straight up cursing at him.

"Hahahaha everyone's here just showing their anger," one netizen pointed out.

Despite some commenters struggling to differentiate his on-screen and off-screen personas, many netizens were quick to offer an explanation, noting that the hate comments prove how effective he is in portraying the "bad guy."

One user wrote, "I hate you in the dramas you’re in… which means you’re a really GREAT actor!" 

Another netizen chimed in, "I came here to tell you that you're a great actor. It takes a good actor to portray a role so well that people start hating [him]."

Park Sung Hoon on Playing Villain Roles

Playing the villain is nothing new to Park Sung Hoon, who also famously starred in The Glory as one of Song Hye Kyo's high school bullies.

In a previous interview, Park Sung Hoon expressed his appreciation for the privilege of being able to portray a wealth of characters that help hone his craft as an actor. "In my opinion, it is a great blessing as an actor to play different characters in each work. There are viewers who like my previous dramas and like my characters, so there is some kind of power to continue acting and move forward," Park Sung Hoon explained. "Sometimes playing a villain, sometimes as a good man, but actors face the audience with a new face and character in each work. So I hope the audience can see and sympathize with the character I portray."

At the wrap-up party of Queen of Tears, the actor had a message for the drama's fans: "Please hate Eunsung but don't hate me. Thank you."
