Since winning the Miss Universe crown in 2015, Pia Wurtzbach has been wielding her influence to fight for things she believes in, whether it’s through her career or personal life.
The beauty queen, actress, and TV host was recently interviewed by Anas Bukhash, an Emirati entrepreneur. The two-hour-long video covered Pia’s life journey–from her childhood, success story, to the many emotional and mental challenges in between. One of which is the topic of motherhood.
When asked if she wants to have kids, Pia thanked Anas for posing that question in the first place. “Because people just ask me, ‘When are you gonna have kids?’”
“After I got married, I just kept hearing that question everywhere,” Pia explains. “Before getting married, ‘When are you guys getting married?’ And now [that] we're married, ‘When is the baby?’”
Despite her frustration with being frequently berated by this question, she makes it clear that she does want children in the future. “Yes! I do want to have children one day. Not now! Not at this point in my career and in my life. And Jeremy is also fine with that, but in the future, we would love to have a family,” she says.
She strongly believes that the definition of womanhood shouldn't be limited to childbearing: “As an empowered woman, if you will, I think your worth as a woman is not measured by you being able to bear a child. There's really so many more things to a woman than just bearing children.”
"Some women do not want to have kids. Some women want to be amazing at their careers, they want to put all their effort into that. Maybe they want to take care of their parents all their life. Maybe they want to commit their life to social work. Maybe they just have different plans. That doesn't mean that a woman is less valuable or less capable."
On that note, she expresses: "I really want to stand up for women who choose not to have kids. I respect that, I salute that. I want to [have kids], eventually, but I'm going to be honest–I'm hating that question (when will you have kids) lately."
Pia Wurtzbach tied the knot with boyfriend Jeremy Jauncey back in March 2023 and revealed it to the public in May. They got married privately in Seychelles.
