How Pat Dy Became the Celebrity-Approved Wedding Photographer He Is Today

On the happiest day of your life, you'd want look as good as you feel on the inside—and be able to fondly regard snapshots of this special milestone later on. Nobody knows how to capture you bathed in this radiant light better than Pat Dy. 

The in-demand wedding and engagement photographer traces his roots to fashion, so he pretty much knows the playbook of making his subject the star of the photo like the back of his hand. Photographs with him look nothing like awkward posed stagings.

Instead, he beautifully frames intimate and candid moments while still injecting a touch of editorial drama. "The goal was to make every bride look their best with our decision-making to execute poses that would work on them," he tells Preview.

But of course, Pat Dy didn't just one day wake up being the top-tier visual storyteller that he is. But as we've learned, this is actually a skill that he has developed, and is continuing to innovate. His mindset role-model? Basketball legend Michael Jordan. While it may come as a shock upon first hearing, it actually does make a lot of sense as Pat sees his career as a work in progress which is both humbling and inspiring at the same time.

Far from just pointing and shooting and repeating these steps 1000x a day, he opens up that there is actually a science behind it that requires patience and hardwork aside from just knowing what registers as good on the lens. It's this same work ethic that he looks for in the members of Team Pat Dy as he hopes to reach more couples and capture their precious memories for them. At the rate he's going, we won't be surprised that he achieves the lasting impact on his field the same way Michael had on sports.
