The Oxford Economics Global Cities Index ranks the world's best global cities, analyzing data from 1,000 urban economies across 163 countries. Researchers look into variables such as economics, human capital, quality of life, environment, and governance. It serves as a reference point for policymakers, businessmen, academics, and the like.

"Evaluating quality of life metrics in the index underscores the importance of urban policies that not only prioritize economic prosperity but also health, equality, and cultural vibrancy, enhancing residents' overall wellbeing," the experts noted.

Manila was highlighted for its human capital commerce and travel value. It would rank 461st in terms of quality of life, as well. Cebu City, on the other hand, entered the list at 436th place, ranking 24th globally for its ecological progress. Cagayan de Oro, likewise, would find itself at the 487th spot. Davao would also enter the greater half of the list at the 500th spot.

In Asia, Singapore would be the highest-ranked city followed by Seoul, South Korea. It should be noted, too, that in 2023, the 1,000 largest cities will produce 60 percent of the global gross domestic product plus 30 percent of the global population. This also highlights the economic and social growth tied to the rankings. The updated list should aid policymakers in crafting more strategic positions moving forward.
