Miss Universe Philippines transpired last night, finally revealing the contender who would be representing the country in El Salvador: Makati’s Michelle Dee. From the fabulous evening gowns to the witty answers during the Q&A portion, it was a dazzling display of beauty and wit, but not without its hiccups that left spectators a bit confused.
After the 38 contestants were whittled down to the Top 5, what followed was the recognition of 2nd Runner-Up and 1st Runner-Up, which were given to Angelique Manto (Pampanga) and Christine Opiaza (Zambales), respectively. Michelle Dee was then announced as the reigning queen, making everyone ask: Where does that leave Bohol’s Pauline Amelinckx and Baguio’s Krishnah Gravidez?
The host said that the two would be awarded in a special ceremony, which did happen after the Miss Universe event. Later that evening in Okada Manila, Pauline Amelinckx was awarded Miss Supranational Philippines 2023 while Krishnah Gravidez was recognized as Miss Charm Philippines 2023.
“What’s with the separate event?”, most people thought. Social media personality and former Miss Universe contestant Ayn Bernos closely followed last night’s events and clarified:
Three months ago, Miss Universe Organization owner Anne Jakrajutatip announced that she will not let other international titles be involved with local franchises of Miss Universe. “[The Miss Universe Organization] prefers to just have one stage for one beauty pageant brand,” she shared in a video.
Despite all the confusion, congratulations are in order for all the finalists of Miss Universe. We’re in awe of your courage and confidence!
