Park Sung Hoon is currently in hot water for a recent controversy involving explicit content shared on his Instagram Stories. Only a few weeks after the premiere of the second season of Squid Game, the actor, who starred in the series as Hyun-ju, was criticized by Korean audiences for the social media post.

The debacle led Sung Hoon to drop his role in an upcoming tvN drama titled The Tyrant's Chef. His management BH Entertainment and the TV show's production company have since aired their sides on the issue.

Aside from Squid Game, Sung Hoon previously starred in popular titles such as Queen of Tears and The Glory. He was slated to appear as the male lead in The Tyrant's Chef, playing opposite YoonA of Girls Generation. The series was slated to be one of tvN's biggest productions this 2025.
On December 30, 2024, Instagram users were taken aback when they saw an adult parody of Squid Game posted on Sung Hoon's stories. The post, which depicted adult actors in costumes inspired by the show, was taken down in an instant. Korean netizens pinned Sung Hoon for the insensitivity of the post, highlighting that it was shared right after the fatal crash of a Jeju Air aircraft.

Sung Hoon and his agency apologized for the post, explaining that the actor only made a mistake in forwarding it to his direct messages. Sung Hoon himself came forward, atoning for the incident by saying: "I sincerely apologize for the great mistake I made recently, which caused discomfort and concern to many people."
Yesterday, January 13, Sung Hoon announced that he was exiting The Tyrant's Chef due to the controversy. A statement released by BH Entertainment read, "After extensive discussions between the production team and Park Sung-hoon, it was decided that he would not participate in this project."

"Both Park Sung-hoon and his agency have issued multiple apologies regarding the recent incident. After careful deliberation, the production team and the actor decided to go their separate ways."
X users who caught whiff of the news shared their thoughts on the matter, pointing out the "impossible standards" pinned on Sung Hoon even after he apologized. "South Koreans act like everyone is perfect, like most people don't have questionable behavior," one wrote.

Talks regarding Sung Hoon's replacement in the show quickly took place, with sources claiming that Lee Chae Min would be filling in his role. Chae Min's filmography includes dramas such as Crash Course in Romance and See You In My 19th Life.
