Here's what the "Celebrity" star had to say about it.

It seems Park Gyu Young has fallen into Netflix’s good graces. Viewers currently know her best in Celebrity as Seo Ah-ri, a social media personality who exposes the dark side of the influencer industry.

The thrilling drama became a certified success just a week into its release, topping Netflix charts in multiple countries and catapulting Gyu Young into global stardom. This isn’t the first time Gyu Young has acted in a Netflix hit, though. In 2020, she starred in the apocalyptic horror drama Sweet Home, as Yoon Ji-soo, a guitarist haunted by her boyfriend’s suicide. The show has since been renewed for two more seasons.

With her recent Squid Game casting bumping up her Netflix Original count to three, it’s no surprise South Korea has given her the nickname “Daughter of Netflix”. In case you missed it, the moniker is similar to what Song Kang got back in 2021 for appearing in Sweet Home, Love Alarm, and Navillera.

Gyu Young, for her part, remains humble about the title. When asked about it during promotions for Celebrity, she answered, “I’m not the daughter of Netflix yet.” She did, however, express her gratitude for the streamer in a different interview: “I feel fortunate to be able to showcase my talent through such a prestigious platform. It's incredible that my work will reach viewers in 190 countries."

After Celebrity, fans can expect to see Gyu Young next in the second season of Squid Game. Considering the series received critical acclaim, several overseas awards and nominations, and even a reality show spin-off, the pressure to deliver is not lost on Gyu Young. "I'm always nervous about any work, but seeing the seniors who appeared in Squid Game 2 was really amazing. Honestly, I was a little more nervous than normal."

Despite the admitted “burden” on her shoulders, the actress is choosing to take it all in stride by focusing on her performance. She expounds in an interview, "I believe the quality of the story and the complexity of the characters are more important than the scale of the production. I will focus on portraying my character to the best of my abilities."
