When one hears the word "coffee", a bunch of concepts comes to mind. Some would think of "caffeinate", "catch-up with friends", or even "my lifeblood". You'd think it crazy if one answers all of the above but in the Philippines, using all three excuses in one go is as valid as it gets. So much so that coffee shops are popping up left and right in areas like Makati, Quezon City, Rizal, and of course, Bonifacio Global City. A place that recently opened, Caffe Pocofino, marries the three common reasons in a visually-pleasing atmosphere that's great for long chats over cups of Italian joe.
Though not the brand's first rodeo—they have stalls-slash-outposts in Greenhills and Mandaluyong City—Caffe Pocofino is their first brick-and-mortar coffee shop, aptly placed in BGC, a mecca of sorts for coffee lovers.
With its brightly colored walls and cozy corners, expect to enter the place low-key dazzled by brightly lit displays featuring Italian goods like coffee beans from Danesi Caffè, Lucaffe, Caffè Borbone, and Gima Caffè. They also have brewing equipment for when you finally decide to try and save a few bucks and just brew at home—who are you kidding, we know you'd still hang out in a coffee shop to be "productive". No judgment here; we'd do the same.
Italian coffee is generally classified as a strong, dark roast that's often high on the bitterness scale but still provides a flat, sharp, and spicy flavor profile. Those angling for a taste of authentic Italian coffee can give the Iced Pocofino Latte (P130) a try. The cafe's signature drink is made with an Italian shot of espresso with a hint of vanilla, making for a light but creamy drink to enjoy on a hot humid day.
Meanwhile, coffee purists would enjoy having the classic Americano (P70) given the selection of Italian coffee beans the brand utilizes—a great way to wake yourself up during a slow afternoon. In case you don't fancy a caffeinated drink during your visit, the thick and creamy Italian hot chocolate Ciobar (P50) is a great choice for those in need of a sweet pick-me-up. Other options for non-caffeinated drinks also include the Iced Tea (P60) whose two flavor options, lemon, and peach, are reminiscent of summers spent in Italy.
Caffe Pocofino is at 30th Street corner Lane A, Bonifacio Global City, Taguig. For more information, check out Pocofino on Instagram.
