It’s pageant season once again. And with the new 2023 Miss Universe Philippines already crowned, all eyes are now focused on Binibining Pilipinas 2023.
The much-awaited National Costume segment of the competition occurred last night, May 18, at the New Frontier Theater in Quezon City. Anyone who watched the show would agree that there were tons of impressive frocks that graced the runway last night. Among the showgoers was MJ Lastimosa, former Miss Universe Philippines 2014, and she just couldn’t help but reminisce and poke fun at her own infamous national costume back when she joined the international Miss Universe competition.

For any pageant hopeful, the National Costume competition is the best way to showcase their country’s culture and artistic talentry. So you’d definitely want to wear something that makes a mark. And MJ’s Miss Universe National Costume back in 2014 was truly a memorable one, to say the least.
“Natcos competition ng [Binibining Pilipinas] 2023 ngayon. Shempre andito nanaman ako para saktan ang sarili charizzzz hahahaha,” MJ tweeted.
For those of you who don’t remember what MJ’s national costume looked like, she wore a white terno ball gown adorned with pink and yellow flowers with a floral headdress to match. Back then, many netizens compared her look to that of a birthday cake.
Of course, the internet always remembers. Some netizens even decided to join in on the fun and replied to the former beauty queen’s tweet. One shared a GIF of her iconic moment, to which she replied, “Araykopo [three cry laughing emojis]”.
Another one tweeted, “Mare lahat pasabog! Yung sa’yo ay parang sabog! Eme,” and all MJ could do was laugh along.
She ended the day by tweeting a picture of the outfit she wore to the show, which she captioned, "Mga kumare wala man akong laban sa natcos at gown, sa emingsuit palavarn naman tayo."
Kudos to you MJ for taking this so lightly. You're definitely a true beauty queen in our eyes!
