It’s official: Miss Negros Occidental Gwendolyne Fourniol is Miss World Philippines 2022! The coronation took place this June 5 at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The 21-year-old beat out 35 other candidates for the coveted title, passed on to her by her now-predecessor Tracy Maureen Perez. Apart from the MWPH sash, Gwendolyne also bagged a number of special awards throughout the night, namely Best in Evening Gown, the Love Your Skin award, and the Miss Silka Award.
During the Q&A portion, she was asked how the country should cope with the education deficit caused by the pandemic. The beauty queen, who’s long been an advocate for equal education, responded: “I do agree that during the pandemic we have suffered the most, but the children who have a lack of access to education have suffered the greatest. And working hand in hand with ERDA (Educational Research and Development Assistance) Foundation who empowered the marginalized Filipino, I believe by uniting benefactors and encouraging children and allowing them to go back to school especially during this pandemic will make this world a better place because education is the greatest weapon against poverty.”
