Hollywood actress Michelle Yeoh is known for playing smart, headstrong, elegant women on the big screen. "Yes, I was sent the script, and I actually said no," Michelle Yeoh said in an interview with BAFTA. She recalls the script being written with a mother that was "very mean, very nasty, and very one tone." And that she couldn't believe a mother could be represented like that, especially in a story that put Asian culture as the focus of the film.

So what made the actress change her mind? None other than legendary director Jon M. Chu.
"I remember asking him," the actress told BAFTA. "I said, 'What's the one of your film?' And I said, 'Is it going to be like [The] Hangover? You know, that kind of fun, commercial, highly successful movies?' And he said, 'If I did that, my mother would kill me.' I was like, 'Oh, okay, we have a conversation.'"

And the rest, they say, was history.
