Those of us who aren't A-list celebrities can only dream of attending an event like the Met Gala. Every year, fashion's biggest night serves up a parade of looks that make our eyes twinkle with fascination. Surely, you'd want to document every moment you can if you're ever lucky enough to be there, right? Well, unfortunately, Anna Wintour wouldn't agree to that.
While no explicit explanation has been given, a source from the chairwoman's camp did mention a "rule" that attendees of the Met Gala need to adhere to during the event: "The use of phones for photography and social media will not be permitted inside the gala."
Backing this up was an article from The Hollywood Reporter, which stated that, "It has solely to do with guests' security and enjoyment of the event."
Sylvana Ward Durrett, another member from Anna's team, expounded on the matter previously, telling The Post that "Anna is sort of an old-school traditionalist." According to her, the fashion tycoon arranges the affair in order for guests to meet one another and possibly network.
In her book, taking phones and the incessant need to take selfies away encourages these interactions. There's been no formal mention if breaking such a rule warrants a penalty (like possibly getting blacklisted from the event, for example.) "We aren't sitting over people's shoulders, but if it's an obvious thing we might gently remind them," Sylvana continued.
Having said that though, celebrities ranging from Song Hye Kyo and Jennie Kim, to Lady Gaga, Madonna, and Katy Perry have managed to sneak a couple of snaps while inside the museum. We mean, who would forget Kylie Jenner's iconic "annual" bathroom selfie, right?
