Who is Margarita Zóbel de Ayala?

The fourth child and first daughter of the prominent Zóbel de Ayala family, she hailed from a lineage that shaped the Philippines during the late 1800s through politics, liberal reforms, and significant business ventures.

Her marriage to Antonio Melián y Pavía further solidified her position in high society. Antonio was granted the title of 3o Conde de Peracamps in 1923, a title of Catalan origin previously held by his maternal grandfather, the king of Spain.

The alliance also proved to be valuable in business: the couple established multiple successful enterprises, and what would later be known as Ayala Corporation. The 1920s proved pivotal to the couple: Her husband Don Antonio was also on the board of San Miguel Brewery, now SMC San Miguel Corp, and Banco de las Islas Filipinas, now known as BPI.
