The Paris-meets-Tokyo lifestyle brand finally meets Manila.

It might not feel like it, but it's been two years since the aesthetic Café Kitsuné set up shop in Manila—in Podium, to be exact. The coffee-lover's haven has some merch on their shelves, but that's only a sneak peek of what multidisciplinary lifestyle brand Maison Kitsuné has up their sleeves. And soon enough, we'll get to shop their collections and collabs because we spotted a board-up for the Paris-based brand at Shangri-La Plaza in Mandaluyong City.

The red Maison Kitsuné board-up is right beside Univers and across the Michael Kors store on the third level of Shangri-La Plaza's Main Wing. Other shops on the same floor include Moressi, Helly Hansen, and Esprit. It's above Cibo, if that also helps.

What is Maison Kitsuné?

In case you didn't know, the Kitsuné brand was actually founded in 2002 by Gildas Loaëc and Masaya Kuroki as a record label in Paris. Loaëc owned a record shop where artists and musicians like Daft Punk would hang out.

Then, the two founders went to Japan together to make a music video, which is where they decided to create a multi-faceted lifestyle brand that wasn't limited to just music. And so, they blended music and fashion, along with that Paris-meets-Tokyo vibe and came up with Maison Kitsuné. Their first ready-to-wear collection was released in 2005.

The name is a perfect fit—Kitsuné means "fox" in Japanese. In Japan, they're supposed to be able to change their faces and appearance. Like their namesake, the brand switched it up once again by expanding into the F&B industry with the opening of the first Café Kitsuné branch in Tokyo. The cafe-restaurant version opened in Paris in 2019.

What can you shop from Maison Kitsuné?

Maison Kitsuné's collections carry the trademark, yet ever-changing face of the fox. Their style brings sharp tailoring together with comfort while still weaving in more modern and playful streetwear influences.
