Louise Emmanuelle Mabulo makes it to this year's Forbes Asia's 30 Under 30 list, under the Social Entrepreneur and Consumer Technology category. This annual list highlights 30 game-changers under the age of 30 years old who are disrupting industries and tackling major global issues, all of whom were selected from over 3,500 nominations across the Asia-Pacific region this year.
It was in 2019 when Chef Louise was awarded by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) the Young Champions of the Earth Prize, which is one of the most prestigious awards for young environmentalists, for her cacao project. This project was born after the onslaught of Typhoon Nina in Bicol City, where 13 lives were claimed and a total of P6.2B in damages.
Through the cacao project, Chef Louise helped the farmers in her hometown grow disaster-resilient cacao that can withstand floods, winds, and typhoons, and also helps them have a stable livelihood. According to F&B Report, there are currently 200 farmers who were able to plant 80,000 cacao trees and other vegetables, such as bok choy, okra, and pumpkin.
There are other Filipinos who made it in Forbes Asia s 30 under 30 list, including gymnast Carlos Yulo and skateboarder Magielyn Didal under the Entertainment and Sports category. Breech Asher Harani who founded Alexandrite Pictures was listed under The Arts Category and Francis Plaza, who co-founded PayMongo, was included in the Finance & Venture Capital category.
