The internet has been abuzz with everything related to Squid Game in the past few weeks. You’ve got crowd-favorite characters shooting to fame, would-be casting news intriguing viewers, and most importantly, all the information fans can gather on the show’s highly anticipated third season coming to the fore.
The latest in the rumor mill? Squid Game 3 has a secret Hollywood cameo up their sleeve in the form of Leonardo DiCaprio. According to Korean news site OSEN last January 1, the famed actor allegedly already filmed his appearance last year under strict secrecy. The report mentioned that details on his character are being kept under wraps too, leaving fans to theorize that he could be one of the game’s VIPs, a.k.a. the wealthy elite watching and betting on the deadly games. As per OSEN, Leonardo’s role on the show is meant to be brief but impactful.

Netflix Responds to Rumors of Leonardo DiCaprio Joining “Squid Game 3”
After this major revelation made headlines, Netflix was quick to issue a response. Unfortunately for fans of the American actor, the streaming site has strongly denied any truth to the news. A statement from a Netflix representative said, “The rumors are completely false. Reports of Leonardo DiCaprio’s involvement in Squid Game Season 3 are entirely unfounded.”
While Leo’s officially a no-go for season 3, there’s still a lot to keep us excited for the show’s next installment, which is set for release this year. Alongside teasing its launch date, Netflix also introduced a new character named Chul-su, the Red Light, Green Light doll Young Hee’s boyfriend, to signify the next game.

In an interview with Variety, the show’s creator, Hwang Dong Hyuk, also revealed that Squid Game 3 will up the stakes for our lead character, Seong Gi-hun, whom we last saw caught by the pink guards after a failed coup attempt.
“Gi-hun having lost everything, including his best friend, and all of his attempts going to failure, it’s now, what is he going to be like? What state is Gi-hun going to be in? And what will he choose to do? Will he continue on with the mission? Is he going to give up or persist?” shared Dong Hyuk. “And so you’re going to meet our character Gi-hun at a very critical crossroads as we begin the third season. Gi-hun will not be the man he was in Season 2.”

Netflix has yet to announce a specific date for Squid Game 3, but Dong Hyuk says that he expects it to drop by summer or fall of 2025.
