Leisure travel to and from Metro Manila and surrounding provinces can resume starting Tuesday, June 1, the Department of Tourism said as the Greater Manila Area remains under general community quarantine.

The government's inter-agency task force on COVID-19 response has allowed leisure travel from Metro Manila, Bulacan, Laguna Cavite, and Rizal to areas under modified general community quarantine or MGCQ according to the tourism department.

There is no age restriction but travelers below 18 and above 65 years old should have a negative COVID-19 test result before travel.

"Allowing leisure travel for all ages from the NCR Plus Bubble to MGCQ Areas will surely help local tourism back on track towards recovery,” Tourism Sec. Bernadette Romulo-Puyat said in a statement.

Leisure travel should only be on a "point-to-point" basis only, which means that while pit stops or stopovers are allowed for eating and personal necessities, no side trips shall be made to other tourism destinations, the tourism department said.

Travel restrictions imposed by local government units will remain effective, it added.

From June 1 to 15, Metro Manila, Bulacan, Laguna Cavite, and Rizal are under GCQ with restrictions.
