In 2021, the San Miguel Corporation initiated a two-year project to clean the historic waterway, which reportedly cost P2 billion. According to President and CEO Ramon Ang, they’ve so far removed “1.3 million tons of waste from critical sections of the river,” and they plan on concluding their efforts by August of this year.
