Kathryn Bernardo Leaves Fans Speechless After the Teaser for Her First "Dark" Role

After a four-year hiatus, Kathryn Bernardo is finally returning to the big screen! Titled A Very Good Girl, not much is known about the film’s plot yet, except for a short trailer that left the actress’s fans absolutely floored.

Star Cinema dropped a one-minute teaser last August 5, which features Kathryn and Golden Globe nominee Dolly de Leon as a seemingly mischievous and powerful pair. Kathryn, in particular, trended on Twitter after showing viewers a much darker side to her acting.

Online netizens called glimpses of Kathryn's performance “intense,” while others praised her for her impeccable “eye acting.” Coupled with the heavy eye makeup she's often seen wearing in the trailer, it's clear this role is a major departure from the charming romantic lead we're used to.

Other users commended Kathryn for not rushing into projects and choosing her roles wisely. FYI, her last movie before this was the 2019 hit Hello, Love, Goodbye, which is currently the highest grossing Filipino film of all time. “She always takes her time sa career niya, doesn't matter what people think she should do. I admire her courage so much,” tweeted one netizen.

Suffice to say, supporters of the actress are over the moon that this much awaited comeback will show us a side of Kathryn “we’ve never seen before,” and beside Dolly de Leon, no less.

Hours after the teaser dropped, Kathryn took to Instagram to thank her followers for their warm reception, as evidenced by the over 11 million views the first-look has garnered.

At the helm of A Very Good Girl is Preview Creative 25 awardee Petersen Vargas, who also directed the award-winning film 2 Cool 2 Be 4gotten.  Production has kept most of its plot a secret, but based from past interviews, it has a thrilling “eat the rich” concept delivered with a lot of class and a dose of unhinged energy.
