To solely denote Julie Anne San Jose as a singer is a disservice to the range of talents she's displayed throughout her career. Since signing with GMA in 2005, she's proven to be a multi-faceted performer, having made her own feats in hosting and acting. Let's not forget to mention that she was one of the first Filipino singers to be featured on a New York Times billboard!
Someone who's seen her become the "limitless" entertainer she is today is makeup artist Kaye Misajon. Julie Anne has been sitting in Kaye's glam chair for about a ten years now, and if anyone can vouch for her superstar qualities in front and behind of the camera, it's her.
Ahead, read our exclusive interview with Kaye as she reveals what it's like working with the Kapuso star.
PREVIEW EXCLUSIVE: Kaye Misajon on Being Julie Anne San Jose's Makeup Artist
Please describe the first time you met.
"I first met Julie Anne on the Marian show in [2014]."
How did you end up working together? How long have you been working together since?
"During the Marian show, [they were] looking [for] a makeup artist for Julie Anne, someone who [can] enhance her features as [a] young and sweet girl on the show. Out of [three makeup artists,] I was lucky to be chosen as her official [makeup artist]. That’s how we [started] working together. It’s been [about] 10 years now."
How would you describe Julie Anne as a client?
"Julie Anne as client is very sweet, polite, and easy to work with. She will just let me do her face [in what ever way I want to]. She’s super mabait."
How has working with Julie Anne impacted your career as a makeup artist?
"As Julie Anne's makeup artist for years, it really helped boost my career a lot. I get a lot of inquires from clients in the same industry. Sometimes people who admire her [would book] me [to be] their makeup artist too."
As her makeup artist, what can you say about her personal style/aesthetic?
"Julie Anne is very simple. She just wants something fresh and natural looking, especially for small events. Sometimes, we do [glam looks] too, [depending] on the show or project requirements. But most of time, [we just do] pretty and simple [looks for] her."
Has your personal relationship developed since you first met? How would you describe Julie Anne as a friend?
"Yes, definitely! We’ve been [working] together for 10 years na, [and] almost every day or every week [because of her] shows. She’s [become a] part of my life routine. We talk [about] anything, from love [and] beauty [to] family. Ka-Marites [ko rin] minsan.
As a friend, she’s loyal. She’s someone you can trust [and] ask advice [from]. She’s always there when you need someone to talk to. For me, she’s not only a friend, but [also] a sister."
What’s your most unforgettable moment working with Julie Anne?
"Hmmm, ang dami eh. But maybe yung work namin sa 'Limitless' Tour [nya] two years ago, pandemic days [pa] yun. We [travelled] from Luzon, to Visayas, [and to] Mindanao for [the] shoot. It was fun, scary, [and] tiring, pero [it was] all worth it. [It made me really] proud of her kasi she [was] so dedicated sa work niya. Limitless sa talent I must say."
What’s something interesting about Julie Anne that her fans don’t know?
"As I always say sa ibang interview, you can see how sexy and 'va va voom' Julie Anne [is]. You [would think that] she’s very strict when it comes [to her diet], but no! She loves rice a lot, especially [when her mom cooks] her favorite dish. She’s also a home body. She loves to stay at home lang. A very simple girl, walang arte. Mas maarte at magastos pa ako sa kanya. (Laughs)"
