JobStreet has revealed where new hires are most sought after for 2021.

The COVID-19 pandemic, which started in the first quarter of 2020, posed many challenges to economies worldwide, and the Philippines wasn't left unscathed. Establishments closed down, companies declared bankruptcy, and others started retrenching employees just to keep their business afloat. But online job portal JobStreet revealed that some industries are already actively hiring to start fresh in the new year.

"In the past year, the total jobs in the market declined by 30% versus 2019, but JobStreet is hopeful that the job market will continue to recover, as companies are gradually hiring applicants," shared JobStreet Philippines Country Manager Philip Gioca in a statement.

Here are the job openings that are actively hiring as of January 2021:

  • Call Center/IT-Enabled Services/BPO (23%)
  • Government/Defense (21%)
  • Human Resources Management/Consulting (12%)
  • Education (9%)
  • Computer/IT Software (5%)
  • Other Specializations (3%)
  • Retail/Merchandise (3%)
  • Manufacturing/ Production (3%)
  • Healthcare/Medical (3%)
  • Banking/Financial Services (2%)

The third quarter of 2020 also saw the gradual reopening of businesses as people adapted to the new normal. Job postings started to grow with an average increase of 3% compared to the second quarter of 2020. Some industries' job volume also grew in the fourth quarter.
