But before you book your flight or start crafting your cherry blossom itinerary, there’s an important step you can’t overlook: your Japanese visa application.

The Japanese Embassy in the Philippines has recently issued an important advisory for travelers. Due to the increasing number of Filipino visitors to Japan, visa processing times may now take significantly longer than usual. In fact, they recommend applying at least two months before your intended travel date to avoid any last-minute hiccups.

This advisory follows a significant surge in Filipino tourists visiting Japan. November alone saw a record-breaking 87,100 Filipino travelers, marking a 37% jump from the previous year, according to Japanese Ambassador to Manila Endo Kazuya and the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO).

Japan remains one of the top destinations for Filipino tourists. The Philippines is now the country’s eighth-largest source of tourists, following South Korea, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, the United States, Thailand, and Australia.
