Janine Gutierrez might not be a stranger to red hot campaigns and sultry photoshoots, but did you know? The Preview Best Dressed List honoree actually only had her first onscreen bikini scene in her 2024 series Lavender Fields.
In a vlog, the actress talked about the wardrobe pieces that her character Iris wore, and it turns out that her "first kiss" with co-star and now-beau Jericho Rosales coincided with the first time she wore a bikini on television!
Janine Gutierrez Opens Up About Her First Onscreen Bikini Scene
Janine felt a bit of pressure to look good on cam while wearing a bikini. So to make sure she's feeling her best, she took the liberty of personally choosing the swimsuit she would wear. As she said in an exclusive Preview video, dressing the part has always helped her to be more confident.
"I've never worn a bikini on TV and it's super intimidating kasi I've done it, of course, in photoshoots. Pero in photoshoots, I've always felt safe, kasi it's a photo and you can choose the best photo," she shared. The 35-year-old recounted that she always felt safe taking sexy swimsuit photos because she has been working with her glam team and her go-to photographer BJ Pascual and his team for years.
But when it comes to filming a teleserye, it's a whole different thing since not only are there a lot of people on set, the camera and the public's reaction can be quite unforgiving. "So pinaghandaan ko talaga na mag-bikini on TV. Sometimes it's true that the TV makes you look bigger. And I just really wanted to do my best and be like really fit, to match rin the personality of Iris. Super talagang nag-workout ako," Janine said.
Ever committed to her craft, the award-winning actress powered through the whole experience and battled through the nerves. She recalled that it was also the first day she and Jericho shot together. "Second taping day ko, and first taping day ko 'to with Jericho and then nag-bikini na ako agad. Tapos may kiss pa agad. Tapos hindi pa kami close, siyempre," Janine disclosed in her vlog.
Smiling through, she talked about the dedication she exerted for that short scene. After all, it was all about making an impression and effectively portraying the diva that her character is. "I just wanted to look really good for the first bikini scene of Iris," Janine stated.
