Following the success of Mars Ravelo's Darna, Jane De Leon is now seen as one of the most bankable Gen Z actresses today. Despite her recent rise to fame, however, Jane still hasn't forgotten her humble beginnings.
ICYDK, Jane actually became her family's breadwinner at a young age because her father passed away from lung cancer. "Six years, siguro ano pa ako noon, mga 16 years old," she revealed in her interview with Dr. Vicki Belo. "Pa-enter na ako ng show business, breadwinner [ako]."
Touching on her own mental health as a breadwinner, Jane added, 'Even naman ngayon siguro nagkaka-anxiety ako, especially with my work, my family. Na-o-overwhelm din ako, especially breadwinner ako so ang hirap ng walang dad."
Jane also admitted that being a breadwinner hinders her from being completely vulnerable with her family. Like her character Narda, she's not really the type of daughter to open up about her personal struggles.
"I need to be strong for my family kasi. Actually, medyo malapit ako sa character ni Narda rin kasi hindi niya pinapakita sa family niya kapag nahihirapan siya at ganoon din ako. Hangga't kaya ko, gagawin ko," she explained. "Alam kong masasaktan talaga sila."
