Jake gets real about how hormone therapy affects his voice.

Over the past few years, Jake Zyrus has focused his efforts on a music career in the States. Alongside this is his continuous journey as a transgender man, which he has openly spoken up about in the past.

Unfortunately, this has become a point of contention for naysayers who can't help but make unruly comments about his transition. In a recent Instagram post, he clapped back at a netizen who called the change in his voice "sayang."

Jake Zyrus Responds to Basher Calling His Voice "Sayang"

"Sayang boses mo Charice," the user said, deadnaming Jake in the process. They went on and compared him to fellow singer Ice Seguerra, who has also come out as a transgender man. "Bakit si Ice Seguerra trans man pero never binago ang boses. Sayang talaga,' they wrote.

To this, Jake first responded by calling the commenter out for mentioning their deadname. "Keep my deadname out of your silly mouth," he stated.

He then went on to explain that part of his transition is undergoing hormone therapy, which Ice currently does not go through. "It's a huge part of being a trans man. Maybe there are important reasons why he hasn't taken hormone therapy," Jake expressed. "I am not going to explain the rest because based on your comment, you sound ignorant."

"Google is free, my darling," the singer said matter-of-factly. "I'm going to pin your comment because it seems like you love being the center of attention. So let's give it to you sweetheart."

What Is Hormone Therapy?

If you're unfamiliar, hormone therapy is when individuals take in hormones that affirm their gender identity. Those who intake testosterone, the primary male sex hormone, may experience excessive sweating, muscle growth, and a shift in their voice, among other physical changes. However, it must be noted that transgender people are not required to undergo this process, as one's gender identity does not rely on their hormonal balance.
